Kulmbacher Mönchshof – a centre of living traditions
Culture and enjoyment under one roof
Our Kulmbacher Mönchshof site serves as a custodian of the genuine culture associated with the brewing and enjoyment of beer. It is also a homely yet innovative venue for people with an interest in culture who wish to experience and enjoy things consciously with all their senses.
Brewing, enjoyment, and experiencing culture
The Kulmbacher Mönchshof stands for beer brewing, food, and hospitality. It was built during the thirteenth century as a goods yard for Langheim Abbey. The birthplace of the Kulmbacher Mönchshof brewery, it has maintained a rich tradition of brewing and hospitality since the early nineteenth century, on the 'Mönchswiesen' (in the Kulmbach suburb of Blaich).
With its unique and vibrant museum offer, the Kulmbacher Mönchshof is now an ambassador for Kulmbach (in the heart of the Upper Franconia region) as somewhere to enjoy the finer things in life.
- In the Bavarian Museum of Brewing with its 'glass brewery', visitors can shadow the master brewer at close range as he goes about his work. And a tour of the museum takes them on a journey through time and the history of beer.
- The Bavarian Museum of Baking contains a lot of history and stories about our daily bread. Children, in particular, can discover, by grinding grain and kneading dough, just how varied and lively a museum can be (although adults can try their hand at these too!).
- The German Museum of Spices lets us trace the routes taken by the old spice caravans as we embark on a journey to the places where the most common and exotic spices originated. This is a place where botany, healing, and science go hand in hand with magic and aromas of spices from all around the world.
Hospitality means a lot to us
Once guests have learned about the cultural side of things at the Kulmbacher Mönchshof, they can make their way to the Mönchshof brewhouse and enjoy homely hospitality and a wide range of leisure offerings and other services.
With its abbey cellar and brewhouse room, it is an inviting place for those who enjoy the finer things in life to take time out, with a beautifully kept Mönchshof beer and some treats from the Franconia region.
